"I'm really enjoying being Acting Store Manager. My
original Manager left a few months ago now, and my
Territory Manager knew I was more than capable of
the job.
"I guess I had a good grounding – I used to manage at
Tchibo, a German coffee shop chain that pulled out of
the UK in 2009. I'd left them a while before that to
go travelling and came back in time for the credit
crunch. To say I was happy to join BP Retail is a bit
of an understatement.
"Even so, it's been far better than I could ever have
expected. Aside from the security of the brand – and
the fact we know our market so well – the environment
suits the way I work. There are processes for virtually
all of our duties, so you always know what to do in
any given situation.
"It's difficult to arrange social events at a 24-hour
store. But we try to make up for it while we're at
work. And I think that's had a really positive effect
on our customers – as well as our results."
