Social Responsibility

We've been reducing our dependence on fossil fuels for a while – BP Solar is now a 35 year-old company. And we love investing in our local communities, too, from helping entire towns prosper to mentoring schoolchildren and giving them work experience. What's more, if you raise money for charity here, our Employee Matching Fund will double it.

Some of the things we do

Some of the things we do

Recycling

We're committed to finding ever-better ways to reduce the amount of waste we produce. Last year, we stopped 1,123 tonnes going to landfill sites through recycling. And now, we've started to recycle the milk bottles we use in the Wild Bean Café – which should save an additional 50 tonnes per year.

Ten fuel efficient tips

Short journeys

Cold engines use fuel to warm up as well take you from A to B. Catalytic converters are also less efficient when cold. So if you can, do less short trips – and walk to get your morning paper.

Roof boxes

The more aerodynamic your car, the less energy and fuel it'll use. So take off roof boxes, roof box rails and bike racks when you don't need them. And remember – open windows and sunroofs increase air drag too.

Fuel

High-quality fuel like BP Ultimate cleans your engine, improves combustion and helps it to run more efficiently. As you'd guess, cleaner engines also mean less harmful exhaust fumes and more miles per gallon.

Tyres

Keep your tyres inflated to the right pressure. Not only are under-inflated tyres dangerous to driven on, they also increase resistance – which means your engine has to work harder and consume more fuel.

Weight

How much stuff in your boot do you never use? It's all having an effect on fuel – especially when you're stopping and starting a lot. Take it out to lower consumption and emissions.
