"I moved into forecourt retail from a more
straightforward supermarket because I felt it would
be a different kind of challenge. It was – and still
is. And even aside from the uniqueness of the forecourt
industry, the way we work here at BP Retail, well –
nobody does it better.
"I run the network's busiest shop. We're good at hitting
targets, which keeps my Territory Manager very happy
indeed. He pops in anything up to three times a week.
But a lot's down to me. Like driving initiatives like
'Doughnut Friday', where we try to sell as many
doughnuts as we can between six and nine on a Friday
morning.
"When I'm hiring, I look for people who'll get excited
about initiatives like that – people who naturally get
on with customers, and have the strength of character
to actively sell add on products. Since my store is a
management training site, they're a great example to
the people who come here to learn. In a way, I feel
like my store has an influence on the network
as a whole."
