FAQs

If you’ve a question about the application process or what it’s like to work at BP Retail, you might find the answer here.

How long will the application take to complete? It should take around 30 minutes. What can I expect to be asked during the online application process? We’ll ask you to provide details of your educational background and previous work experience, as well as personal details like your address and contact telephone number. It’ll be useful to have these details to hand before you start. What if l can’t find any vacancies near me? Only stores with vacancies are shown on the website. If you can’t see the store or area you’re looking for, then we’re sorry to say there are currently no vacancies. Opportunities do come up regularly, though, so please check back often. What if l don’t have my own computer or e-mail account? There are many places where you can access the internet, from Job Centres to local libraries. To apply, you will need an email account – there are many free ones available, such as Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo. How long will it take for someone to contact me after I’ve applied? We aim to contact you as quickly as possible, usually within seven days. If my application is not successful, can l apply again? Yes, after six months. Where can l get feedback from my application? Because we receive so many online applications, we’re sorry to say we can’t give specific reasons as to why someone’s been unsuccessful at the initial screening stage. However, if you are unsuccessful after coming to an interview or assessment centre, then you will get individual feedback either from the line manager or our resourcing team. What if l don’t hold a full UK driving licence? All our Convenience Store Managers and Deputy Managers need to have a valid UK Driving Licence and their own vehicle. How old do l need to be to join? You need to be over 18 years old because of health, safety and legal requirements. How long does the full recruitment process take? It depends on the role you’re applying for. But it usually takes between two and six weeks. We try to make the whole thing as straightforward as possible and will keep you up-to-date throughout the process. What type of shifts will l be working? Because most of our stores are open 24 hours, you will need to be flexible. You won’t be expected to work nights on a regular basis unless you are specifically applying for a Night Shift role. But we may ask you to cover colleagues’ shifts on particular occasions. Will I have an opportunity to develop my career within BP? Yes. With our management development programme, Connections, and the support of your field trainer and line manager, you’ll be able to progress as far as your talent can take you. How often will l get paid? Monthly, by electronic bank transfer. What do l wear to work? When you start your training, we’ll give you a BP uniform and name badge.
