Deputy Store Manager

Our Deputy Store Managers take charge of the store and team when the Convenience Store Manager isn't there. As well as being sharp commercially and a great organiser, it's also crucial to bring a wealth of supervisory experience and great ideas on how to lead, train and inspire a team of between 15 and 35 Customer Service Assistants.

Deputy Store Manager profiles

Kera

"I moved here in 2006 from Claire's Accessories because I moved house. To be honest, I didn't know what I wanted to do long-term. But I was quickly put in charge of the Wild Bean Café and liked having my own little domain. Before long, I started developing my skills through some of the training courses and I decided to focus on becoming a manager.

"I won the Retail Star for CSA of the Year award, which was a proud moment. But my management skills really came on when I started Connections 2. The training opened my eyes to all the HR, commercial and planning sides of the job. The group I learnt alongside were great fun too – I still keep in touch with them.

"Now I'm six months into my first Deputy Manager role. I feel like I've got the hang of it, but I still want to stay at this level for a little while – so that I know it inside out – before I do Connections 3 and look to get my own store."

Deputy & Convenience Store Manager applications

If your online application is successful, our Resourcing team will contact you to discuss your application further. Then, you may be invited to a half-day Assessment Centre where, as well as meeting Convenience Store Managers, you'll complete some activities that show us whether you've the skills for the job. The last stage is a competency-based interview, where we'll ask for real-life examples of how you've handled certain situations, and an In-Store Experience – so you can see how our stores are run. Depending on the role, we may ask you for a SWOT analysis and to demonstrate some practical retail skills. We'll then make our final decision.
